Many take part in the grassroots “Sisters in the Brotherhood” groups that have been launched or expanded throughout the union since 2002. Their mission: Strengthen the UBC by promoting activism and diversity and increasing the number of women members.
The New York City District Council of Carpenters Women's Committee is New York‘s chapter of the international "Sisters in the Brotherhood." The NYCDC women's committee is an integral part of the NYCDCC, providing a forum for women in the New York carpenters union to share, support and learn from each other’s experiences, to use that knowledge to promote growth on both personal and professional levels and to become more actively involved at all levels.
Sisters in the Brotherhood is an integral part of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters, not a separate women’s union.
Our goal is to encourage women within our Regional Council to share, support and learn from each other’s experiences, use that knowledge to grow both personally and professionally, and become more actively involved at all levels. Sisters in the Brotherhood is important to the future of our union, because we are the leaders, ambassadors and role models, who promote union carpentry as a career for more women. A forum for sister members of the carpenter's union, skilled women who were trained as union carpenters.
